What’s the inspiration behind the new collection?
Exploring different textile practices from around the world. A celebration of world craft and blending global styles and influences in a signature Harlequin way.
What was the starting point for this collection?
My research into Oaxaca in Mexico started off the collection; I was so inspired by the city and its vibrant culture. We began pulling references from the patterns and colors used in the architecture and traditional textile weaving practices.
How do you feel this collection pushes the brand forward?
Zamora advances Harlequin’s design boundaries by mixing traditional textile techniques like tapestry weaving with a bold, contemporary aesthetic. Each design has a handcrafted feeling and can act as artwork within interiors.
How does the collection build on or complement your other offerings?
Its builds on our extensive upholstery offering and adds a new depth of jewel-toned color to our palette. The wallpapers are a vibrant take on design, playing with dynamic scales to create a refined and sophisticated feel within any space.
What about the collection feels fresh and exciting?
Our Saltillo mural is a standout piece in the launch. Inspired by desert landscapes, it captures the rich colors and striking angular patterns found in more arid terrains. Interpreting this environment was incredibly inspiring, resulting in a design that evokes a deeply atmospheric and immersive scene.
What piece are you most excited to unveil?
Kantha is an incredible full-coverage embroidery design within the drapery book. Developing this from an archive piece, we reinterpreted the traditional kantha technique in a contemporary way. The design depicts elephants, tigers, birds and trees in a picture-book-style repeat. Full of detail, it highlights the craftsmanship that has gone into this design and collection.
Tell us about the materials in this collection. Are there certain materials used throughout, and/or a material that is a highlight on a particular piece?
Derain is our new upholstery velvet for the season, and it has the most magnificent texture to it. It’s offered in six different colorways, each with distinct combinations that pair beautifully—from Moss/Heather to Burgundy/Amethyst. It’s a key design that pairs wonderfully with our existing portfolio.
Can the collection be customized? What kind of options are possible?
With all our designs, we have the option to create bespoke versions for customers, changing the color, scale, substrates and composition for specific requirements.
How do you envision designers using this collection?
I’d hope it would be a go-to collection for designers to source highly crafted textiles and wallpapers with new color combinations, helping to add depth to their schemes. From building up a story with coordinated designs to finding a standout piece, Zamora offers an array of options.
